B-NETT is an Accredited Provider for for the following Employment-Based routes into teaching:
Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP)
The GTP is intended for graduates who are seeking Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) via an employment based route. It is a one year programme during which period the Trainee is employed by a school as a supernumerary unqualified teacher, and in the majority of cases is supported by a salary grant and training grant from the TDA. Schools that appoint a Trainee to fill a vacancy are not eligible for a salary grant. A small number of Training Grant Only places are available to schools who wish to pay the salary of an eligible and suitable Trainee. B-NETT can work with schools that are prepared to fund the salary and training of a Trainee.
The employing school and B-NETT assume responsibility for training. The programme is essentially a school centred programme supplemented by a number of taught days provided by the B-NETT. B-NETT monitors, supports and assures the quality of the training and is responsible for recommending trainees for the award of Qualified Teacher Status. All Trainees are required to train in two consecutive key stages ranging from Early Years to Post-16, and to teach in a second school. Maintained Primary, Secondary and Special Schools as well as Independent Schools can apply to train a teacher as part of the scheme.
The Graduate Teacher Programme: “Accelerated Option”
The Graduate Teacher Programme: “Accelerated Option” is intended for those with considerable teaching experience but who have not gained QTS. It is a two term programme of mainly assessment with minimal training. Click here for further information and how to apply to this option.
Registered Teacher Programme (RTP)
The RTP provides an opportunity to train for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) while completing a degree. This is a two year programme intended for those who are already working in schools or can obtain employment as unqualified teachers. The requirements for entry are 240 credits at level 1 and 2, equivalent to two years of study in Higher Education. Although a Trainee can complete their degree with any other Higher Education provider, Bradford College offers Stage 3 Bachelor of Education designed to be studied as part of the RTP. Thus, Registered Teachers are engaged in academic study for the final 120 credits at Level 3 for their degree alongside fulfilling B-NETT’s requirements of the programme.
Overseas Trained Teachers Programme
The Overseas Trained Teacher Programme is intended for Primary and Secondary teachers with an overseas teaching qualification to attain Qualified Teacher Status in the U.K. Applicants must hold a teaching qualification gained outside the European Union and must be employed as a full time teacher in a maintained or independent school.
Teachers qualified in countries who are members of the European Economic Community should contact the General Teaching Council directly to enquire about the arrangements for the award of QTS.
Applicants who obtained their qualifications overseas, or who are unsure of the credits obtained for their qualifications; need to contact the NARIC organisation to have them accredited.
The TDA publishes a variety of documents to support initial teacher education.
