Entry Requirements
Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP)
The entry requirements are:
- a degree (for Secondary trainees this must have significant relevance for the subject in which they intend to qualify to teach)
- GCSE in English Language and Maths at grade C or above (or recognised equivalent qualifications. If these have been obtained overseas they should be endorsed by a letter from NARIC)
- GCSE Science at grade C or above for ALL undertaking training at Foundation to Key Stage 2 (please note that this is a new requirement from October 2006).
Key Skills Level 2 Numeracy and Literacy are NOT accepted as GCSE Maths and English equivalent for the B-NETT GRTP
Registered Teacher Programme (RTP)
The same requirements apply for the Registered Teacher Programme (RTP), with the exception that trainees must already have 240 CAT points towards their degree (equivalent to two years of study in Higher Education).
Overseas Trained Teacher Programme (OTT)
Applicants must have the following original documents, all of which must be supported by a letter from the NARIC organisation indicating their equivalence to UK qualifications:
- GCSE grade C or above in English Language and Maths (AND Science for those undertaking training at Foundation to Key Stage 2),
- a degree that is equivalent to a U.K. Bachelor degree
- a teaching qualification from the home country.
- Applicants must obtain employment as a full time unqualified teacher for the duration of their programme.
Equivalency Tests
Applicants who do not have GCSE Maths, English or Science at grade C or above (or equivalent qualifications) should arrange to gain them or take an equivalency test before they can be registered on the Programme. B-NETT can give advice on where equivalency testing services can be obtained.
B-NETT recognises equivalency qualifications gained through Equivalency Testing for Careers in Teaching. Equivalency Testing provides GCSE equivalency tests in Maths, English and Science. Each subject is offered as a home study course or exam only option. For those who need to achieve equivalency in order to undertake Initial Teacher Training they are potentially a quick means of doing so. Please note that they are a commercial organisation and their qualifications are not universally recognised by providers.
