GTP: “Accelerated Option”
What is the Graduate Teacher Programme: “Accelerated Option”?
It offers a route to gain QTS while you work as an Unqualified Teacher in a school. It is intended for those with considerable teaching experience but who have not gained QTS. It is a two term programme of mainly assessment with minimal training.
What are the eligibility requirements?
- A UK bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- GSCE grade C or above (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and Science for those who intend to work in a primary school. For those working in a secondary school, only English and Mathematics are required, Science GCSE is not required.
- You must already be employed as an Unqualified Teacher at the time of application and be employed by a school as an Unqualified Teacher for the duration of the programme.
- You must have at least 1 year’s teaching experience prior to the start of the programme. For the purpose of this programme “teaching experience” means having had whole class responsibility in a primary school for primary applicants and responsibility for teaching a subject to whole class groups in a secondary school for secondary applicants. You must have worked full-time with a teaching load equivalent to that of a Qualified Teacher. You must have had responsibility for planning, teaching and assessing. Work as a cover supervisor is not regarded as teaching experience in this context.
- By the end of the programme you will be required to demonstrate that you can meet the Professional Standards for Qualified Teacher Status in another school and that you can meet the standards in two consecutive key stages. This requirement may have already been met through prior experience otherwise it will have to met during the programme.
How long is the programme?
